The second half featured a flurry of goals from Portland. Kevin Kelsy opened the scoring in the 73rd minute with a left-footed strike from the center of the box, following an assist from Ariel Lassiter’s cross. Three minutes earlier, Lassiter had already found the net with a left-footed direct free kick that curled into the top left corner in the 70th minute.
Kansas City struggled to break through Portland’s defense. Despite several attempts, including a shot from Calvin Harris that was blocked in the 85th minute and a low save from Jayden Reid in the 88th, they were unable to score. The visitors had two corners in the final stages but failed to capitalize. A yellow card was issued to Capita in the 75th minute for a dangerous play, and he was promptly replaced by Stephen Afrifa. Another substitution for Kansas City saw Taylor Calheira come on for Dejan Joveljic in the 71st minute.
Portland continued to press, with Kristoffer Velde and Kevin Kelsy both missing chances in the 86th and 87th minutes respectively. The Timbers also had a corner in the 90th minute, but no further goals were added. The referee announced three minutes of added time, during which Kansas City’s efforts came to nothing.
