Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto confirmed in Asunción that the momentum in their rivalry with Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia has shifted.
The Spanish-Argentine duo once again defeated the world number ones (6-3, 7-5) to claim the title at the ueno bank Asunción Premier Padel P2, in a final defined by high intensity and decisive moments. After arriving in Paraguay with improved physical form and a nearly flawless run through the tournament, Coello and Tapia seemed the favorites. They had dropped just twelve games throughout the championship and crushed Leo Augsburger and Juan Lebrón in just 45 minutes in the semifinals.
However, Galán and Chingotto proved they are currently brimming with confidence against their biggest rivals. They already held a 2-1 head-to-head lead this season, and in Asunción they struck again with a serious, well-executed performance from the start. The key was their management of critical points: Galán brought speed and aggression at the net, while Chingotto anchored the tactical balance from the baseline with a brilliant display that earned him the final’s MVP award.
The pair broke early in the first set, but Coello and Tapia fought back to level until the fifth game, when Galán and Chingotto broke again and managed the advantage with composure to take the lead.
In the second set, Coello and Tapia responded by raising their level, but again met a mentally solid pair. Just as the match seemed headed for a decider, Galán and Chingotto seized a new break opportunity to close the duel 7-5, clinching their third title of the season with two spectacular recoveries by Chingotto on the final two points, both after x3 smashes from Coello.
This victory strengthens the duo’s bid to challenge for the circuit’s top spot. It also leaves Coello and Tapia unsettled in a rivalry that they dominated for many months but now appears to be completely balanced.
Asunción thus capped a historic week for Premier Padel, with over 30,000 fans passing through the Ueno COP Arena during the circuit’s first visit to Paraguay’s Olympic Park, a venue symbolizing padel’s ambition in its push toward Olympic dreams.
