Chris Boswell has long been recognized as one of the NFL’s most reliable and clutch kickers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are now compensating him accordingly. On Monday, Boswell and the Steelers finalized a four-year, $28 million extension, according to a league source. The terms of the deal closely mirror the contract Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey signed less than a month ago, making Boswell the highest-paid kicker in league history alongside Aubrey.
Boswell, a two-time Pro Bowler and 2024 All-Pro, was heading into the final season of the four-year, $20 million contract he inked in 2022. The new agreement keeps him with the Steelers through 2030. Since joining Pittsburgh in 2015, Boswell has converted 87.7 percent of his field goal attempts and 95.7 percent of his extra points over an 11-year career. He holds multiple franchise records, including most field goals in a season (41 in 2024), longest field goal (59 yards), and most consecutive field goals made (25). Notably, the Steelers play in a stadium that has historically been challenging for kickers, making Boswell’s consistency even more impressive.
Former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin once described Boswell as a “serial killer” due to his unflappable demeanor in high-pressure situations. That calmness proved especially valuable during Tomlin’s tenure, when Pittsburgh frequently found itself in tight, low-scoring contests where a nearly automatic kicker made the difference. Boswell is now positioned to further cement his legacy as the greatest kicker in Steelers history. He needs just 11 more field goals and 94 more points to surpass Gary Anderson as the franchise’s all-time leader in both categories.
